Several people have asked me for the recipe I have called "Strawberry Soda Pop Cake". It is the cake my kids request the most for their birthday. So therefore it has become somewhat of a tradition. I made it when Raegan turned one and have done so ever since. You can't mess up the cake but just don't put the frosting on until the cake is completely cooled. Leftovers should be refrigerated because of the cool whip in the topping and it is just as delicious cold!
Yellow or white cake mix-make cake as directed on box.Bake
1c. water
1c. strawberry soda pop
1 sm. pkg. strawberry jello
After cake comes out of oven, poke holes all over the cake . A skewer works great. Make sure you go all the way to the bottom of cake. You can't have to many. Then boil the 1c. water in small saucepan. Add jello pkg. and pop. Pour over cake immediately, trying to get in the holes the best you can. It will run all over but that is fine. Then let cool.
Topping:
1c. milk
1 sm. pkg instant vanilla pudding
1 sm. cool whip
Beat milk and pudding pkg. together. Then add cool whip.Place in refrigerator until ready to serve cake. Top cake and serve. Refrigerate left-overs.

Thanks for the recipe, it sounds yummy! And we are going to Dumont next weekend, you guys should come out!
oh that sounds so good!!! I'm going to have to try that.
Hey! That's a secret family recipe you're giving out!! We loved it when Mom used to make it; my kids love it, too, just like yours--how great is that. It's been a while since I've made it, and now you have me wanting some. Maybe I'll make it for Parker's birthday(except he wants a Super Hero bday). Hope all is well with you guys. It was so nice to see you at Christmas, however briefly. Take Care.
Thanks for sharing Camille - that sounds really good. Andrew's birthday is coming up, maybe I should make it for him!
I love that cake- but have never tried it with soda. We always made it with just the jello. My kids also request that cake for birthdays- I did it once when Lexi was 2 or 3, and it made a huge red mess so it has never been made for parties again! What a nice mom you are! Can't wait to try it with the soda!
That was a family favorite growing up too. We call it "Poke Cake." The kids have fun poking all the holes. We only used jello, not the soda, but I will try it with the soda.
Just last week Ben asked me to make it. He isn't even a lover of cake. That must tell you how good it is.
